Clark's first attempt at wood carving was a carved brown trout that won Best of Show at a taxidermy competition. Since that original sculpture, Clark went on to win numerous competitions and awards, including "Best in World" honors in 1995, 1997, 1999 and 2007, making him the only carver to ever win three consecutive World Fishing Carving Championships and Judges Best of Show four times".
